Product Information

Overview

The Trane XV17 TruComfort™ heat pump offers up to 17.00 SEER2 and 8.50 HSPF2. It can be purchased in 2, 3, 4, and 5-ton models. This system includes the Climatuff™ variable speed inverter compressor, woven Spine Fin™ coil, swept fan blade, and Trane Link connectivity.

When the federal tax credit was introduced at the beginning of 2023, Trane’s flagship products already met the high requirements. Their product team immediately went to work designing a model that fit the minimum requirements AND was budget friendly for most households. It lacks the Weatherguard top and the fully variable capacity of the XV20i heat pump. However, when you combine its 75 stages, 17 SEER2 efficiency, and $2,000 energy tax credit, you get the best blend of budget, comfort, and efficiency.

The XV17 qualifies for the “Cold-Climate Heat Pump” tax credit, meaning that it can maintain high heat output even in northern climates such as Dayton, Ohio. Powered by an inverter-driven compressor, it adjusts capacity in 75 stages to match capacity to the current heating and cooling needs of your home. Longer runtime at a lower speed reduces wear and tear from starting and stopping. This enables the XV17 heat pump to deliver amazing humidity removal, quiet operation, and reliable comfort in both winter and summer.

Pricing

Our estimated price of the Trane XV17 TruComfort™ Heat Pump is $9,700 to $10,500 after installation. It’s important to note – estimating an exact price depends on installation and the homeowner’s priorities. If your home needs a smaller 2-ton unit and your current ductwork was engineered and installed correctly, you can expect an installed cost on the low end of this range. While a large 5-ton heat pump and/or difficult installation will put you at the higher end of the range. Our goal is to help you learn about the options, equipping you to make the best decision for your home and budget.

Furnace Pairing

The estimated cost you see above is the average installed cost of the Trane XV17 heat pump unit alone, without air handler or furnace. The advanced technology in the XV17 only works with tight cooperation between the air handler, heat pump, and thermostat. Therefore, the XV17 requires installation with matching indoor equipment, either a compatible Trane Link air handler or gas furnace with evaporator coil. Our recommendation is either the Trane TAMX Hyperion Air Handler or the Trane S8V2 gas furnace. For an exact, personalized recommendation, consult with our experts.

Warranty

  • 12-year limited warranty on compressor
  • 10-year limited warranty on coil and other functional parts
