Product Information

Who This Unit Is For

Trane’s 14 Single-Stage Heat Pump is the budget option in the heat pump lineup. This model used to be called the Trane XR14.

A Trane 14 Single-Stage can make sense for smaller homes, budget-focused replacements, or houses where you mainly want a straightforward heat pump without paying for multi-speed or variable-speed technology.

It’s probably the wrong fit if you expect the heat pump to carry a lot of the heating load in colder weather, care a lot about humidity control, or have rooms that already struggle with airflow.

What you’re really buying here is the core Trane heat pump package at the lowest installed price. You get the Spine Fin™ coil, demand defrost, and Climatuff™ compressor without the premium features.

Key Features

  • Energy Efficiency: Up to 14.3 SEER2 / 7.5 HSPF2
  • Noise Level: 70–72 dBA
  • Heating and Cooling Stages: 1 Stage
  • R-454B Refrigerant
  • Lower Global Warming Potential
  • Climatuff™ Compressor
  • Spine Fin™ condenser coil
  • Galvanized-steel louvered panels
  • Baked-on powder paint

Benefits

  • Lowest installed price among these Trane heat pump options
  • Simple single-stage heating and cooling
  • Good fit for budget-focused heat pump replacements
  • Can work well in basic dual-fuel setups
  • Uses Trane’s Spine Fin™ coil and Climatuff™ compressor

Considerations

  • Less efficient than higher-end Trane heat pumps
  • Less humidity control than multi-speed or variable-speed systems
  • Not as quiet as Trane’s higher-end models
  • WeatherGuard™ Top is not included
  • Not usually the best long-term value if you want the heat pump to do more of the winter heating

What Our Service Department Says

With a basic single-stage heat pump, sizing matters a lot. If it’s oversized, it can short-cycle in cooling and leave the house feeling humid. If it’s undersized or paired poorly, it may struggle more in heating and lean on backup heat sooner than you expected.

That’s why we don’t just match the size of your old unit and call it good. We look at the home, the ductwork, and how you plan to use the system.

The nice thing about the 14 Single-Stage is that it’s simple. There aren’t as many expensive controls involved as you’d have on a high-end communicating system.

Pricing

Our average price for selling and installing a Trane 14 Single-Stage Heat Pump is between $5,800 to $8,000. This price includes installation and a matching indoor coil.

Smaller units with easy installations are closer to the lower end of that range. Larger units or difficult install projects with electrical and ductwork issues may end up near the higher end.

The Trane 14 Single-Stage isn’t the best heat pump Trane offers, but it is the simplest and lowest-cost option on this page. If you plan to stay in your home for a long time or want the heat pump to handle more of your winter heating, it’s worth comparing the cost difference against the Trane 16 Single-Stage Heat Pump or one of the 17 Multi-Speed models.

Compatible Furnaces

The 14 Single-Stage Heat Pump pairs well with simple indoor equipment. We often match this heat pump with a basic air handler or a practical gas furnace in a dual-fuel setup.

For a tailored recommendation, our comfort advisors will look at your goals, utility setup, ductwork, and home layout before choosing the right indoor unit to match your heat pump.

Warranty

  • 10-year limited warranty on coil and other functional parts

Installation

Our free in-home estimates include a review of your current system, ductwork, equipment location, and comfort concerns. With a heat pump, we also want to talk through how you expect the system to heat the home in colder weather and whether a dual-fuel setup makes sense.

If the 14 Single-Stage Heat Pump is enough for your home, we’ll tell you. If spending more on the next model up makes more sense, we’ll explain why.
