HVAC services have been the family trade for three generations – Dave Watkins (grandpa) served in the Air National Guard, where he was trained in HVAC and eventually started a commercial company with his three sons.
Randy and his son David shifted their focus toward bringing incredible HVAC service to families and homeowners, and in 2001, Watkins Heating & Cooling moved into our Dayton, OH location. What began as a tiny family business has grown into a busy team of over sixty people. But you'll still see those in our Dayton office working the “Watkins Way” through compassion, integrity, and personalized customer service.

a Dayton Customer Story: New Ductwork & HVAC System
The PROBLEM: Here's one of our favorite stories from a recent job we did in the Dayton, OH area! This customer's three-story Dayton home had serious temperature issues with hot and cold spots throughout the house. They were operating on an exceedingly old oil furnace and A/C that were struggling to keep the three floors of their home warm in the winter or cool in the summer. On top of the failing HVAC system, the ductwork in this house had been poorly sized and constructed, causing numerous issues.
The PROCESS: This customer had an out-of-date AC and Rheem oil-fired furance and they were set on moving to an entirely electric system for the convenience and energy efficiency. They initially decided to go with a different HVAC contractor who claimed to have all the answers. But when that other company showed up to install the new system, they couldn't figure out how to make it work with the layout and told the customer there was nothing they could do.
The SOLUTION: Left in a lurch by the other HVAC contractor, this customer reached back out to us at Watkins. Our experts quickly did an assessment of their home and put their heads together to find a solution. Our team walked the customer through how we could do the job and the major changes that would need to be made to the ductwork. We also gave them an aray of options and quotes for a new electric furnace and heat pump installation. They took what we said, shopped around, and concluded that we had the best plan and price for the job!
The RESULT: A team of Watkins technicians went hard to work drawing up a plan to re-size and re-run the poorly constructed ductwork and replace their outdated furnace and AC. After some major, innovative reworking of the duct system and installing a new high-efficiency electric furnace and heat pump, this customer's system now runs perfectly.
Our comfort specialists set them up with a brand new Trane XR14 heat pump and TAM9 electric air handler (electric furnace). This replacement moved them from old, energy-hogging equipment to a new system with impressive energy efficiency of 14.8 SEER2 cooling efficiency and 7.8 HSPF2 heating efficiency. This will instantly save them money on their energy bill. To help their budget even more, we scored them a $500 discount on their new equipment and helped them secure payments under $100 per month for their completely new HVAC system.
During our recent check-in, the customer told us that they were ecstatic with how their new system has even temperature flowing through every floor of their house.
