Overview
The Trane XL18i heat pump offers flexible comfort with two-stage cooling and heating.
The XL18i has been replaced by the Trane XL17i model due to the Department of Energy’s shift from SEER to SEER2 in 2023. The features and efficiency of the XL17i are largely identical, with minor improvements, and it is rated using the DOE’s new method which yields a lower SEER2 rating even though the performance is unchanged. Again in 2025, the Trane XL17i was updated to use the new refrigerant, R-454b. At the same time, they upgraded the compressor from a 2 stage scroll to a multi-speed inverter-driven compressor.
